Unique Opportunity
The Iron River Library has a unique opportunity to invest in its future - but needs your support.
The Callahan Family has agreed to sell 4 lots to the library with the possibility of an additional 2, to preserve an important historical piece of Iron River’s past, while also ensuring space for future growth of the library. The original 4 lots, which include the Mackmiller/Callahan Carriage House, are across the alley from the current library. Right now, the plan is to maintain the Carriage House and surrounding green space as-is, but will work with the community to develop a long-term plan for the space. Potential ideas include outdoor space for library programming and activities, additional reading or gathering space, storybook trails and gardens. It is important to note that whatever is built, will be built through grants and private donations - not the town budget.
Due to state statute, we need your support for this to happen. The library has the donations needed to purchase this property. But, the Town Board needs to approve a resolution at the March 9 meeting to move forward on the purchase of this property. If approved, the purchase can be voted on during the Town’s Annual Meeting of its Electors in April.
Please consider coming to the March 9 Town Board meeting and voicing your support for this project. The Town Board needs to hear from you. If you have any questions about the project, please contact Jacquie at the Library or the IR Library Board President Cassie Fleming at 715-813-9591.
