Cultivate a Healthy Mind in Challenging Times
In challenging times, it's comforting to know that our happiness is dictated more by our state of mind than our circumstances. This starts by cultivating healthy habits of the mind such as optimism, resilience and mindfulness. In this talk, Pelin will give practical tips to learn to better manage our thoughts and emotions to aid in living a happier life.
Pelin Kesebir received her degree in Social Psychology and Personality from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and currently works as a scientist at the Center for Healthy Minds at UW-Madison. She studies happiness and virtues, and the different ways in which we can cultivate our well-being skills.

Music in a Time of Crisis:
The Songs and Legacies of the Vietnam War
If you were alive during the Vietnam era, the music is embedded in your soul. It can bring tears to your eyes or stir a memory. That's what Vietnam veteran Doug Bradley does in his books--use music to tap the conflicting emotions surrounding Vietnam. And feelings that still resonate today during our own troubled times. Join him for a journey of music and memory.
Doug Bradley worked for the UW for three decades and is a veteran of the Vietnam war. He co-taught a very popular class at UW–Madison on the music of the Vietnam War. His new book, Who’ll Stop the Rain: Respect, Remembrance, and Reconciliation in Post-Vietnam America was released in December 2019.
